Newcastle United Women's FC continued their winning ways on Tuesday evening (21st July) with a good win against Durham City Ladies in what was real monsoon weather conditions at Coach Lane.
The match started on the 3G pitch in torrential rain conditions which found both sides fighting hard for the first goal. Even with the bad weather conditions a lot of spectators turned up to show their support for the teams. (Around 100)
The first NUWFC goal came on 9 minutes from some perfect build up play which let a player run onto it to then cross the ball via a side footed pass into the goal.
As Newcastle’s confidence increased the professional build up play was starting to have an effect on the Durham City Ladies defence. Gaps were starting to appear and the fast paced NUWFC attacking formation was starting to get in behind and probe the Durham’s City Ladies defence.
The second half saw the weather conditions not getting any better. Newcastle continued on as they did in the first half, albeit with several new players on the pitch. Only now they were posing even more of an attacking threat.
The game flowed for both sides with Durham having several chances. However in the end it was Newcastle United WFC which ran out to be the winners ... and then the rain stopped !
Our thanks go to Trevor and all the Durham City Ladies for a great game in what was awful weather. Good luck with your season and you are all welcome to come and support the Toon Ladies as play the other teams in the FA Women's Premier League this season.
Thanks also to Martin Docherty for doing an excellent job refereeing the match.
